Today I ask all of you to spread the word of this wonderful father(my brother) Derek Plants from Fallon NV who was critically injured on his scooter by a driver who was texting and driving. He suffered major traumatic brain injury with 5 skull fractures. He is still on a ventilator a week later and his condition is still critical. Derek has a 20 month old daughter named Brooklyn who needs her dad to wake up and continue to be in her life. He has opened his eyes occasionally, wiggled his toe on command, and seems to be on the path to a slow recovery.
Walk alongside me, Daddy, and hold my tiny hand. I have so many things to learn that I don’t yet understand. Teach me things to keep me safe from dangers everyday. Show me how to do my best at home, at school, and play. Every child needs a gentle hand to guide them as they grow. So walk alongside me, Daddy, it’s NOT your time to go!
We have started a facebook campaign where we are all wearing, and showing off our ticktack orange in honor of his favorite color, the color of his truck. Attached to every picture is the #prayforderek This “symbol” of support may sound silly, but it helps spread his story, as many people have seen the power of prayer. Even if one does not believe in prayer, the power of the universe and us being connected to one another and supporting each other when we dont even know someone is very powerful in itself!
So I ask you to please, spread the word of Derek and help us pray for his recovery, if not for him then for his family, who love and need him. For a father, a young man, a stranger, would you add an orange photo with the hashtag #prayforderek and help us show him how much he means to this world, giving him courage to keep fighting???
You can follow his story here at http://www.gofundme.com/derekplantsmedical and if you could share this or donate that would help too.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post.
